Many liberals either hope or want California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom to step up in 2024 if President Joe Biden cannot follow through on running for re-election.
They better hope Newsom doesn’t have to face Gov. Ron DeSantis.
The Florida Republican on Monday night thrashed Newsom, who claims he leads the real “freedom state” in America.

In an interview with DeSantis, Sean Hannity of Fox News asked the governor about the current flood of illegal immigration and Newsom’s plan to issue illegals state identification cards.
In Florida, said DeSantis, “We’re not a sanctuary state. When I became governor, we were able to ban sanctuary cities. The rule of law is important. And so, of course, we’re not going to recognize lawless identifications that are done by California.”
“California, they have abandoned the rule of law,” DeSantis added. “They are a sanctuary state. They don’t follow federal immigration laws.
“And, of course, the [George] Soros prosecutors, they pick and choose which laws to enforce. There will be people in Los Angeles who will get mugged, Sean, on the street and the prosecutor won’t bring charges against these guys, and they end up going out and they victimize other people,” said DeSantis.

“So, I think public safety is incredibly important,” he noted. “And when you abandon the rule of law, you end up getting a lot of the results that they have had in California, and people respond by fleeing the jurisdiction.”
In Newsom’s heavily Democratic California, roughly 1,000 people are fleeing daily. The New York Post reported last month that between April 2020 and July 2022, the number of people leaving outnumbered those moving in by more than 700,000.
Meanwhile, as The Free Press has reported, Florida was the fastest-growing state in America in 2022, adding more than 400,000 people in 2022 alone.
