Gov. Ron DeSantis took another whack at the Biden administration’s incoherent immigration policy, again on behalf of tennis superstar Novak Djokovic.
The Florida Republican on Tuesday sent President Joe Biden a letter urging Biden to allow Djokovic to compete in the Miami Open.
Biden’s administration recently denied Djokovic entry into the U.S. because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19. This was the second time in six months the tennis legend has been turned away.

As Biden blocks Djokovic from coming into to the U.S. temporarily for a tennis tournament, his administration is advocating the end of Title 42, the federal immigration law invoked by the Trump administration to cite the COVID-19 pandemic to deport illegal immigrants.
“This denial is unfair, unscientific, and unacceptable,” DeSantis wrote. “It’s time to put pandemic politics aside and give the American people what they want — let him play.”
Continuing, DeSantis wrote that Djokovic, the top-ranked men’s player in the world, is “surely a supreme competitive threat to his fellow tennis professionals.” But, he added, “his presence in our country poses no meaningful health or public safety risk.”
The governor also pointed out that Djokovic has visited America twice during the pandemic, including on Biden’s watch, without incident.
Meanwhile, DeSantis added, “your administration pointedly allows thousands of unvaccinated migrants to enter our country through the southern border. In sum, the current ‘travel ban’ as applied to Mr. Djokovic — and presumably millions of other potential unvaccinated foreign visitors — seem completely ungrounded in logic, common sense, or any genuine concern for the health and welfare of the American people.”

Yet the only thing keeping Djokovic from participating in the popular Miami tournament, DeSantis wrote, “is your administration’s continued enforcement of a misguided, unscientific, and out-of-date COVID-19 vaccination requirement for foreign guests seeking to visit our great country.”
DeSantis went on to note that three years into the pandemic, we now know the vaccines are not as effective as billed, that natural immunity is just as good, if not superior, to the jab, that hospitalization and death are far less likely than earlier on, and that the vaccines have significant side effects.
“It appears the United States is one of only a handful of countries that requires foreign visitors to have received a COVID-19 vaccination. … The time has come to give up the fiction that COVID vaccines remain a necessary tool to promote public health.”
As The Free Press reported at the time, DeSantis in September also defended Djokovic’s request to enter America to play in the U.S. Open. He called it “stupid” that Biden would deny the tennis great entry to the U.S. when he already had COVID and was a reduced risk because he is one of the premiere athletes in the world.
