Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis just unveiled a $99.7 billion budget for his state – the biggest in its history.
But one of the most intriguing parts of the healthy spending plan involves less than 1 percent of the total.
DeSantis included a line item of $8 million to help deal with what he called the “Biden border crisis.” The money would be spent to ship illegal immigrants whom the Biden administration stashes in Florida to other parts of the country.
“In yesterday’s budget,” DeSantis said during a press conference on Friday, “I put in $8 million for us to be able to transport people illegally [in the United States] out of the state of Florida.”
“If you sent [the illegal immigrants] to Delaware or Martha’s Vineyard or some of these places,” he added, “that border would be secure the next day. That border would be secure.”
“Instead, they’re imposing the results of their policy on states like Florida,” he added.
Delaware is President Joe Biden’s home state, while Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts is where former President Barack Obama owns a $12 million mansion.
As The Free Press reported at the time, DeSantis made a similar comment in mid-November after learning that the Biden administration had made numerous clandestine flights into Florida to deposit illegal immigrants.
“My view would be, if they’re going to come here, you know, we’ll provide buses and … I will send them to Delaware,” he said then.
DeSantis noted on Friday that the flights stopped after he made that threat.
“We’re happy with that. We obviously don’t want to see flights coming in,” he said, adding that “If you had the other [border-control] policies, there’d be no need for flights anywhere.”
