BROOKSVILLE, FL – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday night in South Brooksville.
The incident unfolded around 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Ellington Avenue. A deputy conducted a traffic stop, during which a male suspect fled from the vehicle. A foot chase ensued, and the deputy caught up to the suspect near Ellington Avenue.

A physical altercation occurred, during which, according to preliminary information, the suspect reached for the deputy’s firearm. The deputy then shot the suspect.
The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound. The deputy was also examined for injuries at the scene.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has been notified and will be conducting the investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure.
