TAMPA, Fla.- The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted bank robbery at a Wells Fargo in Tampa.

On Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 2:17 p.m., a suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank located at 6298 West Waters Avenue.

The suspect approached one of the tellers and passed a note claiming he had a gun and demanded money. The suspect proceeded to flee the bank on foot in an unknown direction.

“Attempting to rob a bank is not just a crime, it’s a breach of the trust that holds our community together,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We, as law enforcement, are entrusted with the duty to protect and serve, and we take that responsibility seriously. This criminal will be brought to justice and face the consequences of their actions.”

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about this suspect to call 813-247-8200. This is an on going investigation; any new information will come from the Public Affairs Office.
