A man is recovering after a dramatic rescue on Lake Dias in DeLeon Springs. Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies and Volusia County Fire Rescue responded to a call about a boat spinning in circles with an unresponsive occupant.
The Marine Unit crew located the boat and quickly developed a rescue plan. Acting Division Chief and Technical Rescue Deputy Team Leader John Kyp jumped from the Marine Unit vessel onto the spinning boat, bringing it to a stop and securing the patient. The patient was then transported to shore for medical treatment.
