Left-wingers have long claimed, based on their own interpretation of the law, that the Second Amendment’s protections of gun ownership only applied to members of militias.
That argument has never resonated.
Now, apparently frustrated by their inability to outlaw guns, Democrats now seek to outlaw the militias themselves.
And, of course, it’s about Jan. 6, 2021.
According to Warner Todd Huston, a columnist for the Western Journal, Democratic Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts recently introduced a bill called the “Preventing Private Paramilitary Activity Act.”

The measure would prohibit members of what Markey calls a “private paramilitary organization” to carry a gun while publicly training, patrolling, drilling, or engaging in “techniques capable of causing bodily injury or death.”
The measure would also prevent people from doing that in an attempt to interfere with or interrupt “government operations, interfere with another person’s exercise of any their constitutional rights, or “assume the functions” of a law enforcement officer.
Markey’s bill defines a “private paramilitary organization” as “any group of 3 or more persons associating under a command structure for the purpose of functioning in public or training to function in public as a combat, combat support, law enforcement, or security services unit.”
Huston noted that in a press release, Markey singled out the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers as groups whose Second Amendment rights he wants to strip.
“Private paramilitary actors, such as the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers, pose a serious threat to democracy and the rule of law, and we must create new prohibitions on their unauthorized activities that interfere with the exercise of people’s constitutional rights,” Markey said.
“The forces of bigotry, hatred, and violent extremism must be stopped for the sake of our democracy.”

Radical leftist Maryland Democratic Rep. Jamie Raskin is sponsoring the House version. In a statement, he added, “Our legislation makes the obvious but essential clarification that these domestic extremists’ paramilitary operations are in no way protected by our Constitution.”
Huston pointed out that the law is meaningless as all 50 states already have similar laws.
Huston also noted that two leftist activist groups that support Markey’s plan include the misnamed Institute for Constitutional Advocacy and Protection at Georgetown University Law School and Protect Democracy.
As the Tampa Free Press reported on Monday, those two groups are among a group working with Deep State bureaucrats and Democratic lawmakers to throw legal roadblocks up in the path of former President Donald Trump, if Trump is returned to the White House in November.
Members of those groups told NBC News that Trump must be stopped because he is a “clear and present danger to our democracy.”
As Huston wrote on Sunday, “Despite the fact that there was no appreciable threat to the government, no violence that rose to that level of ‘insurrection,’ no announced plans to take over the government by any of the protesters, no armed assailants in the Capitol — other than the police who killed show shot a pro-Trump protester to death — all these far-left groups cite the Capitol incursion in 2021 as justification to further attack the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.”
“When Democrats say that they support the Constitution, and especially when they say ‘we aren’t coming for your guns,’ they are simply not telling you the truth. They will never rest until your right to bear arms has been fully eliminated.”
