Democrat Crist Bucks The Trend, Bringing Biden To Florida To Campaign For Him

President Joe Biden is coming to Florida on Nov. 1 to campaign and raise money for Crist, the Democratic challenger to Republican incumbent Gov. Ron DeSantis, according to Florida Politics.

Crist, whose voting record as a congressman was 100 percent in lockstep with Biden, is one of the few Democrats willing to have Biden campaign on his behalf.

It’s a risky proposition against an already overwhelmingly popular governor.

Depending on which poll one cites, Biden’s approval rating is between 40 percent and 45 percent.

FiveThirtyEight.com, a site that tracks the aggregate of national polls, notes that Biden’s support has been underwater since Aug. 30, 2021. As of Wednesday, his negatives outweighed his positives by a 53-42 margin.

Biden, at this point in his presidency, has the same exact approval rating as Donald Trump, according to FiveThirtyEight.com.

A poll last month by Spectrum News and Siena College found that 55 percent of Floridians say the state is on the “right track” under DeSantis, but only 28 percent said the same of the nation as a whole under Biden.

It’s unclear how Crist thinks Biden can help him.

That same Spectrum-Siena poll found that only 39 percent of Floridians have a favorable view of Biden. That’s 2 points below Donald Trump and 11 points beneath DeSantis.

At the same time, however, that poll revealed that Biden is actually more popular with Floridians than Crist, who has a 34 percent favorability rating.

Meanwhile, this week the liberal media featured stories about how Democratic candidates are encouraging Biden to steer clear of their races.

The Hill reported on Wednesday that the president is “once again being viewed as a serious drag on his party’s midterm prospects, after a late summer bump had some thinking he would be less of an anchor around Democratic lawmakers seeking reelection. With three weeks to go until Election Day, Democrats say they are worried that Biden’s shaky approval ratings will end up hurting their chances in the House and Senate races.”

The Hill bluntly added, “Some Democrats don’t want Biden at their campaign events, believing his presence in public is more of a harm than a help.”

The New York Times seconded this, with an article Wednesday that proclaimed, Biden’s current “low profile on the campaign trail reflects a low approval rating that makes him unwelcome in some congressional districts and states at a pivotal moment before the midterms.”

In fact, Democratic candidates are clamoring more for former President Barack Obama and first lady Jill Biden than the actual current president.
