FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies arrested 25-year-old Alfred Smith from Daytona Beach on Monday morning for attempting to meet a minor for sex.

Smith had been communicating with who he believed was a 16-year-old girl on a social media app and drove to Palm Coast to meet her. However, he was instead met by FCSO deputies.

Smith admitted to sending sexually explicit photos to the supposed minor and acknowledged he knew it was wrong to travel to meet her. The investigation began after private online investigators alerted the FCSO about Smith’s activities. It’s worth noting that Smith was already on sex offender probation.

He was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device and Traveling to Meet/Lure a Child After Using a Computer. Additional charges are pending. Smith is currently being held without bond at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility.

“This pervert thought he was traveling to Flager County to take away the innocence of a child but instead he meets Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were waiting for him,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Obviously, he has not learned anything from his prior offense and being on sex offender probation. Now it’s time for him to learn a lesson in prison before he can hurt a child.”
