TAMPA, Fla. – Tampa Police discovered credit card skimming devices on ATMs at two separate 7-Eleven locations Tuesday. The first device was found by a maintenance worker at the 7-Eleven on 1930 N. Dale Mabry Highway, who promptly reported it to authorities.

During their investigation, officers were alerted to a second skimming device at a 7-Eleven located at 2717 W. Hillsborough Avenue.

Both cases are under active investigation. Detectives are urging anyone who has recently used the ATMs at either location to review their bank and credit card activity for unauthorized transactions. Skimming devices can capture card information and PINs, potentially leading to fraudulent activity on victims’ accounts.

The Tampa Police Department shared advice to help residents protect themselves from skimming scams. Before using an ATM, individuals should inspect the machine for signs of tampering, such as loose or misaligned parts, or any attachments that appear unusual.

It is also critical to shield your hand while entering your PIN to prevent hidden cameras from capturing the code. People are encouraged to avoid ATMs in poorly lit or secluded areas, as these may be more prone to tampering.

In addition to ATM safety, Tampa Police provided tips to minimize the risk of fraud. They advise regularly monitoring bank and credit card accounts for any unauthorized charges. If suspicious activity is detected, report it immediately to the financial institution. Updating PINs and passwords frequently and opting for credit cards with fraud protection features are also recommended to enhance security.

As the investigation continues, police remind the community to remain cautious and proactive when using ATMs, to act swiftly if any suspicious activity appears on their accounts, and to report concerns immediately.
