Coronavirus cases are spiking, but hospitalizations and deaths are trending downward. Hillsborough County health officials say people 34 and younger represent the biggest increase lately.
In the last seven days, there have been 14,109 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state of Florida.
“Our 14-day trajectory shows continued steady increases. There was a slight flattening yesterday but early reports today, I anticipate a large number coming back,” said Dr. Douglas Holt, the Florida Department of Health Hillsborough County director.
On Monday, during the Emergency Planning Group Meeting, Plant City Mayor Rick Lott asked Dr. Holt, if they are seeing an increase of COVID-19 cases due to protest in the Tampa area,
Dr. Holt said, “At this time we have not. We do ask generally, if people been around large groups of people, for whatever reason, are not specifically asking about the gatherings regarding our protesting.
Governor Ron DeSantis has continued with plans to reopen the Sunshine State, despite it seeing its highest single-day increase of confirmed coronavirus infections since the start of the pandemic.
“No, we’re not shutting down, you know, we’re going to go forward. You have to have society function,” DeSantis said.
