Conservative Commentator Matt Walsh Rips Trump For Tumpeting BLM Support

In 2018, Ron DeSantis' political journey took a turn at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. Fast forward to the present day, and the same venue became a battleground for his presidential aspirations. I

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh on Thursday pushed back against supporters of former President Donald Trump, who seek to explain away Trump proudly proclaiming support from Black Lives Matter.

Walsh suggested Trump’s backers are being disingenuous because they’re excusing behavior that they would never let another Republican get away with, especially Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Walsh addressed the topic on his podcast a day after Trump promoted the support of Mark Fisher, a former BLM leader in Rhode Island, on his social media platform, Truth Social.

In a post, as reported by the Tampa Free Press, Trump said, “Spoke with Mark Fisher yesterday, a great guy, very honored to have his and BLM’s support. I have done more for Black people than any other President (Lincoln?), including 10-year funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, where they had none, Opportunity Zones, Criminal Justice Reform, and much more. Thank you to Mark!”

Fisher made the comments during an interview earlier this month. “Trump has done more for the black community than any president I can think of in my lifetime,” Fisher said at the time.

The BLM chapter in Rhode Island has said Fisher is no longer affiliated with them.

Gary Dantzler, the current head of BLM in Rhode Island, told the media that he was “really disgusted” by Fisher’s endorsement of Trump. He also claimed Fisher was “absolutely not” a founder of the group, but was a “respected advocate for BLM” who was “fired and demoted” at some point.

Walsh, on his broadcast, noted that some Trump fans have turned BLM’s denials of Fisher’s influence into a defense of the former president, and thus rendered the whole thing a “non-issue.”

Yet, Walsh added, Trump is actually the one who thanked BLM for their support. Doing so, he legitimizes BLM.

“There’s no circumstance, there’s no situation, where it could ever be OK to thank BLM for anything,” said Walsh. “It’s like thanking Planned Parenthood or NAMBLA [the North American Man-Boy Love Association]. That’s what it’s like.”

Continuing, Walsh argued, “Obviously, it goes without saying that if Ron DeSantis ever thanked BLM for anything, Trump fans would never stop talking about it. I mean they would never, ever, ever let DeSantis live that down. Nor should they.”

“Because it’s insane. It’s an insane thing to do,” Walsh added. “You do not legitimize Marxist, terrorist organizations like BLM. And if you’re an honest person, and a Republican thanks BLM, you’ll start to ask yourself questions about what this person really stands for.”
