Jerrard Santiago, a 44-year-old man from New Haven, Connecticut, has been sentenced to 96 months (8 years) in federal prison for distributing narcotics that led to the death of a 22-year-old male in 2021. The sentence also includes three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that Santiago sold cocaine laced with fentanyl to the victim in a restroom at the Mohegan Sun Casino on May 18, 2021. The victim overdosed on the casino floor and tragically passed away 11 days later.

Following an investigation, Santiago was arrested in March 2023.
He pleaded guilty in January 2024 to two counts of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, a controlled substance. U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer determined that Santiago knowingly distributed the drugs that caused the victim’s death.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Mohegan Tribal Police, and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ross Weingarten and Christopher W. Schmeisser.
