Judge Merrick Garland Attorney General Biden Obama

Congressional Black Caucus Demands AG Garland Use The Justice Department To Overturn Red-State Voting Laws, And Democracy Itself

Liberals want the American people to continue to believe former President Donald Trump and his supporters are the biggest threat to the nation’s election system – even after they weaponized the federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies against Trump’s presidency, and maintain that the unarmed Jan. 6 rioters were pulling a coup.

The Congressional Black Caucus is now adding to this by urging the Justice Department to overturn new voting laws in Republican-led states.

The CBC’s move came after the Democratic-led Congress has been unable to convince GOP lawmakers and the few moderate Democrats to go along with President Joe Biden’s massive overhaul that would federalize all elections in the name of protecting “voting rights.”

According to The Hill, 44 Black Democrats signed a letter dated Tuesday to Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to “leverage the full might of the Department of Justice to defend the sacred right to vote for all Americans” against the red states’ “unabashedly racist and partisan attacks on our nation’s democratic principles.”

These new voting laws, which tend to beef up anti-fraud protection by requiring identification and which repeal extreme measures enacted during the pandemic, “must be forcefully condemned and expeditiously reversed,” the CBC said.

Among the left-wing instigators who seek to force Garland to overturn laws passed by duly elected state lawmakers are two members of “The Squad,” Reps. Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.

In their letter, the CBC claims black Americans are “disproportionately targeted for disenfranchisement, gerrymandering, voter purges, and other forms of voter suppression, vote dilution, and election subversion.”

This alleged “campaign to oppress Black voters is rooted in white supremacy and serves to further institutionalize the legacy of slavery,” the letter added.

The CBC demanded that Garland bolster his “commitment to do whatever it takes to ensure that every American has their vote counted no matter how they look or where they live.”

“We recommend that you act with urgency to overpower and outpace attempts to diminish the will of voters,” they added in the letter.

“To ensure the sanctity of the electoral process, it is necessary to move swiftly in litigating heinous laws designed to suppress voter turnout and invalidate election outcomes,” the CBC members wrote. “Confidence in elections is vital to maintaining a healthy democracy.”

Thus, Democrats continue to promote the Big Lie that black Americans cannot vote – one that is easily undermined by actual voting data.

The curveball liberals toss to the unsuspecting is that the stat to look at is the gap between white turnout and black turnout. Whites turn out at higher rates, ergo racism keeps blacks from the polls, the argument goes.

What they don’t want you to see is actual raw numbers.

Last month, in reporting on this issue, The New York Times noted that 46.8 percent of black voters went to the polls in 1988.

By 2004, according to the Pew Research Center, turnout among black voters reached 60.3 percent.

When Barack Obama, America’s first black president, was on the ballot in 2008, black turnout set a record at 65.2 percent. That record was broken in 2012, according to the Census Bureau, when 66.2 percent of blacks voted.

Although that ratio declined to 59.4 percent in 2016, the black vote rebounded in 2020, as 62.6 percent of that demographic voted in 2020.

As Pew analyst, Paul Taylor wrote during the 2012 election, “blacks’ rising share of the vote in the past four presidential elections has been the result of rising turnout rates.” In other words, more people voting.

What liberals also won’t acknowledge is that these ratios equate to more blacks voting in raw numbers. America’s black population has grown by about 17 million since 1988, an increase of more than 50 percent. It’s grown 29 percent just since 2000.

Yet we continue to hear shameless falsehoods, including from the CBC on Tuesday, that blacks are somehow not permitted to vote.
