Common Things That Could Be Harming Your Health

Many of us try our very best to be healthy by eating a good diet and getting a little exercise, but many of us are unwittingly putting out health at risk every day by doing some pretty common things.

Below are some everyday things that many of us do, which could actually be harmful to us in the long term. If you are doing any of them regularly, then it could be time to have a rethink!

Biting your nails

Biting your nails is not just bad for your beauty regime, it could be making you sick too! As you might imagine, the space under the nails is great at collecting a wide range of bacteria, so if you bite your nails between washing your hands, you could be ingesting all kinds of nasty bugs that could cause you to get sick. It’s one habit you’re going to want to break.

Using earbuds

Okay, so there is nothing wrong per se with using your earbuds to listen to music or podcasts or whatever. However, if you use earbuds for longer than half an hour without a break, and if you turn the volume up about 70 decibels, then you could have a problem.

Earbuds and ear health are significantly linked and prolonged use at high volumes can lead to hearing loss over time. If you do need to use earbuds, take regular breaks and never turn your device above the warning level if you want to stay safe.

Eating lots of protein

Protein is important and you should definitely eat at least 0.75g per kilo of bodyweight, but if you eat too much of it, then you can end up dehydrated; you may find it difficult to absorb all of the calcium you may need; you may even end up with liver problems. So, enjoy healthy protein in moderation but don’t feel like you need to be eating mountains of protein with every meal because it is actually not that great for your health.

Scrolling before bedtime

It can be so tempting to spend the time before you hit the sack scrolling through social media or looking at your favorite website, but it could be harming your health if you do. The blue light emitted by most electronic-screen devices can make your body think that it is still daylight, which can make it much harder fr you to get a good night’s sleep, as when you don’t sleep, you are more likely to be stressed, depressed, gain weight and suffer from heart issues, so turn off an hour or two before bed and do something ore low-key instead.

Sitting

If you sit too much, you will have a shorter life than your peers who stand a lot. You will also burn 20 fewer calories per hour on average, and you are more likely to suffer from various aches and pains too, Get up and move around as much as you can!

If you do any of the above, then it’s time to stop and replace these bad habits and practices with healthier ones that will not harm your well-being like they are.
