Jorge Giovanny Gonzalez-Lopez, a 42-year-old Colombian citizen, has pleaded guilty to conspiring to smuggle firearms from the United States to Colombia.
United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg made this announcement Friday.
Gonzalez-Lopez faces a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. However, it is expected that he will be deported from the United States upon completion of his prison term.

Extradited from Colombia in February 2024, Gonzalez-Lopez has remained in custody since. His sentencing hearing is scheduled within the next 90 days.
Court documents reveal that Gonzalez-Lopez traveled to Florida in late 2017 and early 2018. During this time, with the assistance of others, he acquired multiple firearms, including various types of assault rifles.
He then illegally exported these weapons from Clearwater, Tampa, and Kissimmee, Florida to Colombia.
This case is part of an ongoing effort by U.S. law enforcement agencies to combat the illegal trafficking of firearms from the United States to other countries.
