Few public officials have been as aggressive in promoting public safety as Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose policies have recruited to Florida more than 4,000 law enforcement officers from outside the state, toughened penalties for crime, and eliminated soft-on-crime proposals taking root in blue states.

CNN gave DeSantis another opportunity to talk about his anti-crime record on Friday, as the left-wing network considered the cross-section of massive illegal immigration and a spike in violent crime across the nation.

At issue was the release from jail of five violent illegals who jumped and bashed two New York City cops on Jan. 27.

The NYPD was subsequently outraged after left-wing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg let all five go without requesting bail following their arraignment on Wednesday. Police seek more suspects in the attack.

The New York Post reported on Saturday that investigators believe the suspects have already fled for California. That means they’ll likely escape justice.

On Friday, CNN analyst John Miller discussed the case. He brought up the records of the suspects.

During the segment, Miller, a former NYPD deputy commissioner, noted that the gang faces multiple charges for grand larceny, robbery, and attempted robbery, in addition to now assaulting cops.

“This particular crew operated on mopeds and scooters. They were doing organized retail theft. They were doing snatches on the street: iPhones, iPads, clothing,” Miller said.

He added that one person the NYPD is still hunting in the attack was already hit with ten charges in one day because “he’s part of a pattern that’s been going on.”

“And I’m looking at the dates that their arrest started, which is probably close to when they got here. They’ve only been here a couple of months,” said Miller.

“What the detectives are telling me is they have crews here that operate in New York, do all their stealing, then go to Florida to spend the money and then come back,” Miller said. “And I’m like, ‘Well, why don’t they just stay and steal in Florida?’ And they said, ‘Because there, you go to jail.’”

At that point, Erica Hill, one of the two anchors for the segment who both seemed dumbfounded by Miller’s explanation about Florida, simply uttered, “Oh.”

During a press conference on Friday, DeSantis used the anchors’ reaction to promote what he’s done in Florida. He noted to audience applause that shoplifting thugs will go to jail in the Sunshine State.

“You can see why people are fleeing some of those areas that can’t even keep the streets safe. They can’t even keep the homeless off the streets. It’s been really, really problematic in many parts of our country,” DeSantis said, as reported by the Daily Caller.

“We’re doing it right here. And people are voting with their feet.”
