CNBC’s Joe Kernen disputed “Squawk Box” co-host Andrew Ross Sorkin’s claim Wednesday that Americans are regretting their vote for President Donald Trump.
Sorkin claimed that an increasing number of Americans would prefer that an autopen be in charge over Trump due to the tariffs and the wavering stock market. Kernen said that no Trump supporter misses former President Joe Biden, who allowed a record high number of illegal immigrants to cross the U.S.-Mexico border and also declined mentally.
“Most Trump supporters at this point, even if they’re disillusioned, would take probably World War III to wish that Kamala Harris had won that election,” Kernen said.
“I think that one of your fans and Trump supporters wrote on Twitter yesterday to you that an autopen would have been better,” Sorkin said.
Kernen then called out the political left for suddenly being concerned about the rule of the law after the Biden administration had permitted millions of illegal immigrants to both enter and remain in the U.S. Democrats have accused the Trump administration of violating the rule of law by deporting Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an MS-13 member who illegal entered the U.S. in 2011, who had been sent back to El Salvador through a clerical error.
“I don’t think that’s true,” Kernen pushed back. “Did you like the four years of autopen? … No one’s wages went up, and you had 11 million illegal aliens come into this country. I know that’s okay with you. You’re worried about this one going back … [Illegal immigrants] totally ignored the rule of law coming here. Now you’re talking about it again. So now it’s back to what-about-ism. So 11 million is fine? When did you talk about the rule of law when the border was open?”

“Constantly,” Sorkin said, causing Kernen to chuckle.
While the administration admitted that Garcia had been mistakenly deported, they have maintained that he should remain in El Salvador due to his association with MS-13 and prior deportation orders issued by a judge in 2019. Garcia wore “a Chicago Bulls hat and a hoodie with rolls of money covering the eyes, ears and mouth of the presidents,” which represents a good standing with MS-13, while he loitered a Home Depot in 2019, according to a dossier released by the Department of Justice.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the administration should “facilitate” the return of Garcia, though El Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele said in the Oval Office on April 14 that he will not return Garcia to the U.S. Democrat Maryland Sen. Chris Van Hollen, along with four congressional members, traveled to El Salvador to visit Garcia and send the message that Trump violated the rule of law.

Trump’s approval ratings have been better in comparison to his first term and holds a net positive rating on immigration. While the tariffs were put in place, polls found that more Americans are beginning to trust Republicans over Democrats on the question of who “cares more for the needs of people” for the first time in over 30 years, CNN’s Harry Enten said.
