DAVENPORT, Fla. – Clermont woman was arrested on Tuesday morning after Polk County Sheriff’s deputies observed her committing several traffic violations in a school zone and later discovered she had a suspended license and was in possession of marijuana.

At approximately 8:15 a.m. on December 17, 2024, deputies patrolling the school zone outside Ridgeview Global Studies on Dunson Road in Davenport spotted 23-year-old Lara Alexandre speeding through the zone while holding and looking at an iPad and not wearing a seatbelt.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop, during which Alexandre admitted she did not have her driver’s license on her.

A database check revealed that Alexandre’s license had been suspended since September 2024. During a search of her vehicle, deputies found marijuana, a grinder in her purse, and her suspended license inside the car.

While being taken into custody, Alexandre became combative, elbowing a deputy sheriff in the chest. Upon arrival at the Sheriff’s Processing Center in Winter Haven, she became aggressive again, prompting a detention deputy to assist.

During the confrontation, Alexandre bit the detention deputy on the arm and attempted to bite another deputy.

  • Resisting arrest with violence
  • Resisting arrest without violence
  • Possession of marijuana and paraphernalia
  • Possession of a suspended driver’s license
  • Driving while license suspended

“I don’t know if Ms. Alexandre celebrates Christmas or not, but she’s certainly not spreading joy this holiday season. In fact, she’s done everything possible to ensure she’ll be in the county jail instead of spending time with her family at Christmas,” said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. “Here’s a tip: if you’re driving illegally, you probably shouldn’t draw attention to yourself by speeding through a school zone while looking at a mobile device and not wearing your seatbelt.”
