POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A tragic accident occurred on SR-33 near Voyles Loop Road Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a 49-year-old Clermont man.
The preliminary investigation indicates that around 7:31 pm, the Clermont man, driving a Honda CRV southbound, attempted to pass slower traffic and collided head-on with a northbound tractor-trailer.
The impact caused both vehicles to veer off the road, with the tractor-trailer striking a utility pole and guide wires.

The driver of the Honda CRV was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 31-year-old Lake Alfred man, was uninjured, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The investigation into this fatal crash is ongoing.
