CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Police detectives arrested two suspects over the weekend as they continued their investigations into recent shootings.
Tyrese Jerrido, 17, was taken into custody Sunday and charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Jerrido was involved in a March 11 shooting that occurred in the 400 block of North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Two victims in their driveway were hit by gunfire and injured. Jerrido later showed up at Morton Plant Hospital with a gunshot wound to his hand.
The other suspect arrested over the weekend was Lamar Johnson, 19.
While detectives were searching for Jerrido on Saturday in the 900 block of Engman Street, they saw Johnson pull a gun from his waistband and throw it into a bush. The weapon was stolen out of St. Petersburg. He was charged with delinquent in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.
Since December, there have been seven shootings across the city that police believe are connected.
Last week, detectives arrested a chronic offender in the drive-by shooting at Drew Street and U.S. 19 that left one person dead and three others injured.
Derriontae Ward, 19, was charged in that crime.
“The detectives and officers at the Clearwater Police Department have never been more committed to reducing violence in our community,” said Police Chief Dan Slaughter.
