CLEARWATER, Fla. – Clearwater Beach will remain closed until further notice due to extensive flooding caused by Hurricane Helene. The barrier island’s roads, businesses, and homes were submerged under several feet of water.

Even as floodwaters recede, significant debris remains on the roads, making travel unsafe. The beach cannot reopen until this debris is cleared.

Bridges to the barrier islands are currently closed to residents are permitted access.

Police and fire departments conducted numerous high-water rescues from homes on both the beach and the mainland late Thursday and into Friday.
