TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla – In preparation for Invest 97-L, city officials declared a local state of emergency this afternoon during an emergency meeting of the City Council.
The declaration acknowledges the potential threat of flooding in the community. It provides authority to waive procedures and formalities regarding public safety and city operations associated with the City’s Emergency Management Plan.

Additionally, the Library will open at 10:30 a.m., and the Omar K. Lightfoot Center and the Family Recreational Complex will open on Monday at 12:30 p.m.
City offices will be closed until noon on Monday.
Sanitation, residential solid waste, and recycling pickup will not be collected on Monday. Full service is expected to be regular on Tuesday.
Sandbags will be available to residents at the following location from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3.
- Sports Complex, 10369 US Highway 301 Temple Terrace, FL, 33617 Temple Terrace residents are eligible for a maximum of 10 sandbags per person.
- Residents must show an ID verifying residency. A driver’s license will serve as proper identification.
The City’s Emergency Operations Center will open Saturday at 8 am. Police and Fire communications will remain operational throughout the storm, but responses to calls for service will be prioritized based on urgency and availability of emergency personnel.
Residents are urged to stay inside if possible until the storm passes. If storm conditions exceed safe response protocols, first responders may only be able to respond once conditions subside.
