TAMPA, Fla. – As residents begin repairing damage caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the City of Tampa is urging the public to be vigilant against contractor fraud and price gouging.
While some price increases may occur due to supply and demand, it’s illegal to excessively inflate prices during a declared State of Emergency. Essential commodities like lumber, generators, gas, and repair services should not see dramatic price hikes. Suspected price gouging should be reported to the Attorney General’s hotline at 1-866-NO-SCAM (1-866-966-7226).

- Confirm bonding: Ensure the contractor is bonded to protect against incomplete work.
- Avoid large upfront payments: Never pay the full amount upfront and be wary of large deposits.

- Roof repair/replacement
- Electrical work
- Garage door replacement
- HVAC replacement
