ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The City of St. Petersburg is encouraging residents to begin preparation for the 2023 hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30.
The following opportunities are available:
Attend the Hurricane Expo: This year’s Hurricane Expo will be held on Thursday, June 1, from 5:30-7 p.m. at Campbell Park Recreation Center, 601 14th St. S. Attendees will learn how to sign up to receive storm updates, information about evacuation zones, how to properly stack sandbags, details about debris pick up, and more.
St. Pete residents with a valid ID will be able to receive up to 10 pre-filled sandbags or 10 empty sandbags ON SITE at the expo. Attendees will also receive free hurricane preparedness supplies and resources donated by various organizations.

Purchase Supplies During Tax-Free Holiday: St. Pete residents are encouraged to stock up on hurricane essentials during the 14-day disaster preparedness sales tax holiday from May 27 – June 9, 2023.
Examples of tax-free items could include:
- Flashlights and lanterns
- Radios
- Coolers and portable power banks
- Batteries and fuel tanks
- Generators

Fill Your Sandbags Proactively:
Did you know the City offers free sandbags year-round? Visit the Pavement and Traffic Operations Building, 1744 9th Ave. N., during City business hours, M-F to get up to 10 free pre-filled sandbags, per household.
