CITRUS COUNTY, Fla. – A Citrus County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting during a foot pursuit of a battery suspect Thursday.

The pursuit began at a residence in Homosassa and ended in a wooded area, where the suspect allegedly fought with the deputy and attempted to disarm him.

The suspect then threatened the deputy with a knife, leading the deputy to use deadly force.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital and the deputy was placed on administrative leave, per standard procedure. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the incident.

“I am thankful that our deputy was uninjured and that no one else in the community was harmed,” said Sheriff Michael Prendergast. “We appreciate the community’s support as the investigation continues.”
