A 39-year-old Chinese national was ordered to be held on trespassing charges Friday after attempting to gain entry to President-elect Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. Authorities arrested Zijie Li on Thursday when he arrived at the property’s gate in an Uber, despite a court order barring him from the premises, according to the Associated Press.
Li, who resides in suburban Los Angeles on a student visa, had previously been placed in a mental health facility in late October following another incident near Mar-a-Lago.
He was recently released but now faces two misdemeanor trespassing charges related to his repeated attempts to access the estate.

The arrest is the latest in a series of security breaches involving Trump. In July, the president-elect narrowly survived an assassination attempt by a sniper at a Pennsylvania rally.
A second incident in September saw an alleged assailant targeting him at the Trump International Golf Club.
While unauthorized entries into Mar-a-Lago have occurred during Trump’s presidency—including two by Chinese nationals—none of the previous breaches had escalated into attempts on his life, the AP reported.
In a related development, the Department of Justice announced charges on Friday against three men linked to an Iran-backed plot to assassinate Trump.
The suspects include Carlisle Rivera and Jonathon Loadholt from New York. The third suspect, Farhad Shakeri, an Iranian national, remains at large and is believed to be in Iran.
