A suburban Chicago man, Jason Brown, 42, was sentenced to 18 years in federal prison for attempting to provide material support to ISIS and for drug trafficking offenses. Brown pleaded guilty to the charges in 2023 and has been in custody since his arrest in 2019.
On three occasions in 2019, Brown provided $500 to an individual he believed would send the money to an ISIS fighter in Syria. Unbeknownst to him, the individual was cooperating with law enforcement, and the supposed ISIS fighter was an undercover officer.

Brown also trafficked fentanyl and other drugs from California to the Chicago area and illegally possessed several loaded handguns in connection with his drug trafficking activities.
U.S. District Judge Mary M. Rowland imposed the 18-year sentence on October 16, 2024. The sentence was announced by various law enforcement officials, including the Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, the Assistant Attorney General for National Security, and the Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI’s Chicago Field Office.

The case involved a multi-agency investigation with assistance from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
