Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Charlie Crist promised a campaign built on “love.”
Yet if you’re a Republican, he wants you to know that he despises you as much as President Joe Biden does, and thinks that you, too, are a threat to the survival of America.
On Tuesday, the Twitter account DeSantis War Room posted a video of a speech Crist gave last week after Biden’s dystopian speech in Philadelphia.
In his remarks on Sept. 1, Biden declared that “MAGA Republicans” are “a threat to the very soul of this country,” and that “Donald Trump and the MAGA Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundation of our Republic.” “They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people,” said Biden, further claiming that “MAGA forces are determined to take this country backwards.”
And this was just days after Biden referred to Republicans as “semi-fascists” and his press secretary argued it was an “extreme” position to disagree with Biden, even though 75 percent of the country thinks America is on the wrong track.
Crist, who when he was a congressman voted with Biden 100 percent of the time, also agreed with him about “MAGA Republicans.”
“How many of you saw Joe Biden speak last night on national TV? God love him. God love him. And I do,” Crist told a crowd that raucously applauded Biden’s demonization of his political opponents.
“And he told it straight. Democracy is at stake. A woman’s right to choose is at stake. Our freedoms are at stake. And the president laid it out. And he didn’t hold back. And I am so damn proud of him for it. We have to have that kind of courage, and just tell it like it is.”
Someone should point out to Crist that he is the Democratic nominee because of, you know, democracy; that while it tightens restrictions on abortion, Florida’s new ban on abortion after 15 weeks is more liberal than 90 percent of Europe; that freedom also includes the right to criticize the government without fear of losing your livelihood, the right to lawfully own a gun, and the right to reject a vaccine you think might harm you; that condemning political violence also includes condemning so-called social justice activists who burn down cities and riot.
Yet as Crist was cheering on Biden, the president actually walked back his comments. He tried to say he was not referring to all Republicans, although in the speech he made no distinctions.

Someone may also want to point out to Crist a new poll that shows most Americans believe Biden amped up the political tension in the country instead of rallying people against the “MAGA Republicans.”
The Trafalgar Group released a poll Tuesday that found 57 percent of Americans believe the speech was “a dangerous escalation in rhetoric and is designed to incite conflict amongst Americans,” compared to just 36 percent who called it “acceptable campaign messaging.”
The majority on that question included 19 percent of Democrats, 89 percent of Republicans, and 62 percent of independents.
