Is it too early to be calling Patrick Mahomes possibly the greatest quarterback of all time?
Barring injury, CBS Sports broadcaster Boomer Esiason doesn’t think so.
“No, because we all recognize the brilliance,” Esiason said. “There’s little subtle things that Patrick does on the field that very few quarterbacks do.”
Tom Brady is considered the greatest of all time with 7 Super Bowl Rings—six with the Patriots and one with the Bucs. But Mahomes is on his way, and CBS Sports color analyst Tony Romo says there’s never been a quarterback like Mahomes.

“I call him The Standard now, that’s what I call him,” Romo said. “All other quarterbacks now are going to be evaluated by. “Them (all NFL QB’s) to get to their dreams have to go through this guy. That’s an incredible honor. Brady was for a long time. Patrick has taken that mantle. This is a once-in-a-generation talent.”
The Chiefs are trying to be the first NFL team to win back-to-back Super Bowls in 20 years. With Mahomes under center, the Chiefs beat the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV and the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII last year.
He(Mahomes) was born to do this.” Esiason said. “Tom Brady had to work to get to where he is like Patrick Hahomes was born to do this. You could see it from the first day he stepped onto the field.”

Esiason thinks the 49ers should try and take a page out of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ playbook in the Super Bowl from three years ago when the Bucs’ defense had answers for Mahomes and beat the Chiefs in Tampa.
“Tampa Bay shut him down in that Super Bowl,” Esiason said. “The 49ers defensive front seven has that same type of talent. They just have to play their best game like Tampa did.”
Credit Mahomes for saying Brady’s 7 Super Bowl Rings ‘seems like a long way away still.’ He’s certainly on his way to becoming the greatest QB of all time.
