U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge have intercepted a massive shipment of methamphetamine concealed within a truckload of tomatillos. The seized narcotics have an estimated street value of $21.2 million.
“This massive load of harmful narcotics will not make it to American streets thanks to our vigilant CBP officers who continue to thwart these smuggling attempts,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On January 8th, CBP officers encountered a tractor-trailer arriving from Mexico at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility. The truck was selected for inspection, which included the use of non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment and a canine team.
Upon physically inspecting the shipment, officers discovered 398 packages of methamphetamine concealed within the trailer. The narcotics weighed nearly 2,379 pounds (1079 kg).

CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents have initiated a criminal investigation into the smuggling attempt.
This significant seizure highlights the ongoing efforts of CBP officers to combat drug trafficking at the border and prevent dangerous narcotics from entering the United States.
