U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility have intercepted a massive shipment of narcotics, seizing over $19.8 million worth of methamphetamine and $144,500 worth of heroin. The drugs were cleverly concealed within a shipment of cucumbers and jalapeños.
“Our CBP officers don’t skip a beat when it comes to securing our border. This interception illustrates the important work CBP does to secure our border from harmful narcotics,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.

On February 4th, CBP officers encountered a tractor-trailer entering from Mexico. After selecting the vehicle for inspection, officers utilized non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment and a canine team to examine the cargo.
The physical inspection revealed 26 packages of heroin weighing 7.53 pounds and a staggering 8,206 packages of methamphetamine weighing 2,217.85 pounds, all hidden within the produce shipment.
CBP seized the narcotics and the tractor-trailer. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents have initiated a criminal investigation.
