Caught On Camera: Would-Be Lakeland Lawn Mower Thief Identified, Already Behind Bars

POLK COUNTY, Fla. – A would-be lawn mower thief who stole a security camera while trespassing in Kathleen has been identified and charged, despite already being in custody for unrelated offenses.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) reported that on Monday, March 10th, an unknown individual trespassed on private property in Kathleen. The suspect entered a structure and attempted to steal a lawn mower using bolt cutters.

When the attempt failed, the suspect stole the security camera that had been recording his actions, as well as a pair of jumper cables.

Deputies were able to obtain a still image of the suspect from the security footage and canvassed the neighborhood. A resident recognized the individual as 31-year-old Austin James Fenimore of Lakeland.

Ironically, Fenimore was already in custody at the time of his identification. The Lakeland Police Department arrested him on March 17th for retail theft, possession of marijuana resin, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Wednesday, the PCSO added to Fenimore’s existing charges. He was additionally charged with:

  • Burglary
  • Loitering/Prowling
  • Petit Theft
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Possession of Burglary Tools
