Caretaker Arrested For Theft And Exploitation Of Elderly Lakeland Man

LAKELAND, Fla. – A 25-year-old woman employed as a live-in caretaker has been arrested for allegedly stealing from an elderly disabled man in her care, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO).

The PCSO reported that the victim contacted them on April 8th to report that his caretaker, Hannah Baggett, had unplugged a security camera and then stole cash from his room.

During an interview with deputies, Baggett admitted to taking cash from the victim’s wallet on multiple occasions. She attributed her actions to a substance abuse issue, specifically with alcohol. Baggett reportedly stated, “I’ve taken twenties several times. Sometimes forty and sometimes sixty.”

Hannah Baggett was arrested by the PCSO and taken to the Polk County Jail.

She was charged with:

  • Petit theft
  • Grand theft
  • Exploitation of the elderly/disabled
