TAMPA, Fla. – Career Source Tampa Bay (CSTB) announced today that its President & CEO, John Flanagan, will be leaving his position, with his last day at CSTB scheduled for December 1, 2023. Flanagan has accepted a new opportunity with the city of Atlanta.
Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens announced today, October 23, 2023, that he has appointed John Flanagan as the Commissioner of the newly established Department of Labor and Employment Services.
Flanagan, who has served as the President & CEO of CSTB for the past five years, expressed his pride in the organization’s achievements and the dedication of its staff. Under his leadership, CSTB has evolved from a rebuilding organization to a nationally recognized thought leader in the workforce community.
“I am incredibly honored to work with Atlanta Mayor Dickens as his Commissioner of Labor and Employment Services,” said CSTB President and CEO John Flanagan. “I am excited to implement his bold and equitable vision for reshaping the future of work for the people of Atlanta.”
Flanagan expressed his gratitude to CSTB staff, calling them the driving force behind the organization’s success. “I’m very proud of the work you have done and what you have accomplished. To think of where this organization has gone in five years, you’ve not only made me look good, but you’ve made yourselves look good in the workforce community, and you should be proud of everything you’ve accomplished.”
Flanagan is leaving with a` proven track record, bringing CSTB’s state performance ranking under the REACH ACT to an ‘A,’ making CareerSource Tampa Bay among the top-performing workforce boards in the state.
“John Flanagan arrived at CSTB five years ago and proved to be the right man for the right time in our organization, said Sean Butler, CSTB Board Chairman. “Under his leadership, CSTB has flourished, evolving from a rebuilding entity into a nationally recognized thought leader in the workforce community. His outstanding performance has left the organization in a strong position to continue serving the needs of our regional economy. We are immensely grateful for his dedication and the lasting impact he’s had on CareerSource Tampa Bay.”
In closing, Flanagan emphasized that his time at CareerSource Tampa Bay has been the highlight of his professional life. He expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and offered his full support to the CSTB staff and leadership team during this period of change.
Hillsborough and Pinellas County staff, along with the CEO’s of each Career Source entity have been meeting jointly to identify the path to effectuate a consolidation of the two workforce boards and agencies. An update on the consolidation process will be provided to the BOCC’s in November.
