The state Department of Education is preparing to craft a new rule to allow high school students to earn credits for doing extracurricular activities with career and technical student organizations.
The potential rule stems from a law (SB 240) approved by the Legislature and Gov. Ron DeSantis this year.
It would allow students to “receive work-based learning or credit in electives for completing a threshold level of demonstrable participation” in career and technical activities, a notice about the rule-making process said.

Florida has 11 registered career and technical student organizations, including groups such as the Florida FFA Association and the Florida Technology Student Association.
The department is slated to hold a rule development workshop on Dec. 5.
