PLANT CITY, Fla. – A Plant City house caught fire on Saturuday, after a driver crashed into a ulity pole.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, a car driven by a 31-year-old Clearwater man was traveling eastbound on US-92 approaching Branch Forbes Road when he lost control of the Ford Fusion he was driving.
Investigators say the car crossed the westbound lanes, departed the roadway, and entered the north shoulder. Once on the shoulder, the car collided with a tree and then struck a wooden utility pole.
The car overturned and stopped in a ditch.
FHP Troopers say the utility pole fell over and the power wires were pulled from an unoccupied
house located at 5642 US-92, and sparking wires ignited the house which burned down.
An unoccupied Ford pickup truck parked adjacent to the residence also incurred significant fire damage.
The 31-year-old driver and his passenger, a 31-year-old Clearwater woman, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The Clearwater man was later cited for careless driving and driving while his license suspended.
