Over the past few months, Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has invited unhappy police officers, adrift cargo ships, and even hypocritical blue-state Democrats to relocate the Sunshine State.
California’s Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom believes he smells an opportunity after the fallout of Disney CEO Bob Chapek’s hand-wringing over the Parental Rights in Education bill.
But it’s hard to see what incentives Newsom can offer.
Chapek did not acquit himself well in mulling over the bill, which prohibits school districts from offering instruction to K-3 students in gender identity and sexual orientation issues.
He first remained silent, appearing to be above the political fray, and was roasted by his own LGBT employees and leftist activists for not hammering the bill and the Republicans who support it.
Then, Chapek did speak out, claiming he had made his opposition to the measure known to DeSantis, adding he had been working against the bill behind the scenes. That led to criticism from the right, as it appeared Disney, which pitches itself as family-friendly, supported teaching radical sexual politics to those in the earliest grades.
DeSantis picked up on Chapek’s ultimate stance.
“You have companies, like, at Disney, that are going to say and criticize parents’ rights, they’re going to criticize the fact that we don’t want transgenderism in kindergarten in first-grade classrooms,” the governor said recently.
Seeking to capitalize on Chapek’s dilemma, though, Newsom on Saturday tweeted, “Disney, the door is open to bring those jobs back to California — the state that actually represents the values of your workers.”
The tweet included a Los Angeles Times article that described Florida’s Disney employees as “hurt” and “angry” over Chapek’s response.
So, accordingly, the governor of California is now among those who believe it is appropriate for elementary teachers to instruct K-3 students on politics of transgenderism, gay rights, and a host of other sexual proclivities – withut informing parents.
Newsom’s pitch is hamstrung by the fact that Disney has already announced that it is moving 2,000 jobs from California to the Orlando area by sometime next year.
Regardless of that, it’s difficult to see why Disney workers – or anyone else – in Florida would head out to the left coast.
Right now, for instance, with Bidenflation the average price of gas in California is $5.74 a gallon, compared to $4.35 in Florida, according to AAA.
For 2022, according to the website World Population Review, California has the second-highest cost of living index in America, trailing only Hawaii. WPR says its scale measures the amount of money needed to sustain a certain standard of living by affording basic expenses such as food, housing, healthcare, and taxes.” California’s score is 151.7; Florida’s is 97.9, below the national average.
Again according to WPR, California has the highest individual income tax rate, topping out at 13 percent. Florida has no state income tax. California charges a 7.25 percent sales tax. Florida’s state sales tax is 6 percent.
The FBI reports that in 2020 the violent crime rate per 100,000 residents was 442 in California; in Florida, it was 383.6.
Meanwhile, in December, the Census Bureau reported that Florida added almost 221,000 people; California lost roughly 367,000.

Since Disney’s values are in line with the CCP, I suppose Communist California would reflect those values as well.
