A California man is facing serious charges after allegedly using a drone to deliver fentanyl and other drugs to customers, resulting in at least one fatal overdose.

Christopher Patrick Laney, 34, of Lancaster, California, was arrested on multiple charges, including distribution of fentanyl resulting in death, operating an unregistered aircraft in furtherance of a felony, and possession with intent to distribute narcotics.

Federal prosecutors allege that between December 2022 and January 2023, Laney used a drone to deliver drugs from his home to a church parking lot, where an accomplice then distributed them to customers. One customer tragically died from a fentanyl overdose in January 2023.

Video footage from the drone reportedly shows Laney conducting at least three other drug deliveries. A search of his home also uncovered an AR-15 rifle and two 9mm pistols without serial numbers, often referred to as “ghost guns.”

If convicted on all charges, Laney could face a sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
