A California parental rights’ group has sued the state’s top law enforcement official for undermining their effort to prevent sex-change procedures without parental cooperation.
According to the Washington Free Beacon, ‘Protect Kids California’ sued the state’s Democratic Attorney General Rob Bonta for purposefully rewording their ballot petition to intentionally mislead and confuse voters with language that makes the measure sound harmful to children.
The group needs at least 50,000 voters’ signatures to make the November ballot. But Protect Kids California said in court records that Bonta impeded their work because he mislabeled the intent of their initiative.

The Free Beacon reported that the ballot question seeks to ban sex change drugs or surgeries for people under 18, prohibit schools from promoting gender-identity swaps without parental notification, and block biological boys from participating in high school girls’ sports.
Bonta, who has the authority to review all ballot initiatives, gave the measure the title of “Restricts the Rights of Transgender Youth,” the Free Beacon reported.
He also claimed the part that prohibits secret “school-led” gender transitions offered no exceptions to protect student safety – even though the petition does not change current laws regarding school officials hiding “gender identity issues” when the child is at legitimate risk.
Bonta’s wording also claimed the petition would outlaw “gender-affirming” care, even as the initiative’s supporters assert their measure does not preclude “affirmative therapy” — just physically irreversible drugs and surgeries.
A poll take last year by the Harris Poll and Harvard University’s Center for American Politics, found that 80% of all respondents and 71% of Democrats agreed that gender transition drugs and surgeries should be allowed “only” with parental approval.
In its lawsuit, according to the Free Beacon, Protect Kids California points out that Bonta is prosecuting a county school district for adopting a policy to inform parents if their kids seek to change genders, Bonta also has joined other left-wing lawsuits to force states to allow biological boys to compete in high school sports for girls.

“Attorney General Bonta has repeatedly made his position clear — he is against the entire purpose of Protect Kids California’s initiative,” said Erin Friday, a San Francisco lawyer and Democrat who is guiding the lawsuit against Bonta.
“They [the voters] did not stand a chance in receiving an impartial title and summary. Moreover, Bonta has an insurmountable conflict of interest given that he is a plaintiff, a defendant, and an amicus in multiple lawsuits dealing with related issues.”
