TAMPA, Fla. – A brush fire kept Tampa Fire Rescue (TFR) crews busy this afternoon after erupting in the 3900 block of George Road, between the Skyway Park and Dana Shores areas. The blaze, first reported at 1:54 PM, quickly escalated due to strong winds, eventually consuming approximately 10 acres of brush and woodland.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a roughly three-acre fire already burning. Initial efforts to extinguish the flames were hampered by high winds, which caused the fire to spread rapidly and increase in intensity. Recognizing the need for additional resources, TFR requested mutual aid, and units from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

During the height of the incident, Tampa Police Air Service provided aerial support, assisting ground crews with situational awareness and identifying hotspots. The Department of Forestry also played a key role in the firefighting efforts.

Crews worked diligently for two hours, battling the flames and working to contain hot spots before finally bringing the fire under control.

Despite its proximity to major transportation arteries, including Memorial Highway and Tampa International Airport property, authorities reported no disruptions or delays to traffic or airport operations.
