HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. – A Brooksville man is facing charges after being caught driving at excessive speeds with a toddler who was not properly restrained in a child car seat.
On January 16th, at approximately 10:30 a.m., Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputy B. Croft was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Mariner Boulevard and Quintara Street when he observed a green Chevrolet Camaro traveling at a high rate of speed. Using a laser speed device, Deputy Croft clocked the vehicle traveling at 80 mph in a posted 45 mph zone.

A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver was identified as 24-year-old Matthew Aaron Cuesta. Cuesta reportedly told the deputy that he was on his way to court for a previous speeding violation.
Upon further investigation, Deputy Croft discovered a toddler in the vehicle who was not properly secured in a child car seat. This discovery led to Cuesta’s arrest on a charge of reckless driving.
Cuesta was transported to the Hernando County Detention Center and given a bond amount of $1,000.
