TAMPA, Fla. – A multi-vehicle crash involving a dump truck on North 50th Street in Tampa has resulted in the deaths of two men and injuries to others, including two juveniles.
The Tampa Police Department is investigating the incident, which occurred just before 1:00 PM today. Officers responded to the south end of the intersection of N 50th St and E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
According to investigators, a 2015 Kenworth dump truck, driven by a man in his late 40s, was traveling northbound on N 50th St, approaching E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The driver failed to notice stopped traffic ahead and, in an attempt to avoid a collision, made a sudden lane change.

The dump truck struck the rear of a minivan driven by a man in his early 60s, which had two juvenile passengers. The driver of the minivan was transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased. The two children were also hospitalized, one with serious injuries, but both were last listed as stable.
The dump truck then continued forward, veering onto the shoulder and striking a man in his early 20s. This man had momentarily exited a company box truck while traffic was stopped to place a company sign on the grassy shoulder. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The dump truck then collided with three additional vehicles before coming to a complete stop. Two of the three adult drivers involved were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“This tragedy is a sobering reminder of how quickly lives can be changed on the road,” said Chief Lee Bercaw. “Our deepest condolences go out to the families and friends mourning this unimaginable loss. We urge everyone to stay mindful and make safe choices behind the wheel, not just for themselves but for everyone on the road.”
The driver of the dump truck did not show any signs of impairment or medical episodes. He was issued a court summons for careless driving resulting in death.

Upon arrival, officers pronounced one adult male deceased at the scene. Another adult male was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Two juveniles involved in the crash were also transported to a local hospital and are currently listed in stable condition.
The Tampa Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Details regarding the cause of the collision have not yet been released.

Due to the ongoing investigation, all lanes of N 50th Street are closed from E Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to N 32nd Street. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
