HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. – A Brandon man is facing serious charges after allegedly threatening two victims with a firearm and then leading deputies on a high-speed chase. The incident unfolded Tuesday night, January 22nd, around 9:35 PM, when Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a disturbance call at a residence on the 500 block of Sandy Creek Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies witnessed a green vehicle speeding away from the scene. They quickly identified the driver as the suspect and initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Garnet Drive and Bell Shoals Road.

The driver, 36-year-old Alexander Devane Bennett, was apprehended. A search of his vehicle revealed a loaded firearm with 16 rounds in the magazine and one round in the chamber. Deputies also discovered several boxes of ammunition inside the vehicle.
Bennett was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (x2)
- Driving Under the Influence

“Reckless and dangerous behavior that threatens the safety of our community will not be tolerated in Hillsborough County,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We are committed to taking every action necessary to hold this individual accountable for his actions. Our deputies’ swift actions during the traffic stop prevented this individual from committing further crimes and helped ensure the safety of our residents.”
The investigation into the incident remains active.
