In a fiery appearance on Fox News’s Hannity, former Acting ICE Director and Border Czar Tom Homan vowed to investigate and potentially prosecute New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy if evidence shows he is knowingly housing an illegal migrant on his property.

The remarks came amid a broader discussion about sanctuary cities, immigration enforcement, and the Trump administration’s ongoing efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

Homan’s comments were sparked by reports that Governor Murphy had allegedly admitted to housing an undocumented individual on his property.

“If he’s knowingly harboring, concealing, and shielding an illegal alien in violation of U.S. Code 1324, I would seek prosecution,” Homan declared. “We’ll look into it, and if he’s breaking the law, we’ll deal with that.”

The controversy stems from Murphy’s vocal opposition to former President Donald Trump’s deportation policies. Murphy, a Democrat, has long been a proponent of sanctuary policies, which limit cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities. Homan criticized such policies, arguing that sanctuary cities and states endanger public safety by shielding criminals from deportation.

“Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for criminals,” Homan said. “If New York City, a sanctuary city, had cooperated with ICE and handed over the killer of Lake and Riley when he was first arrested for endangering a child, those young girls might still be alive today.”

Homan’s remarks referenced a high-profile case in which an undocumented immigrant, previously arrested in New York City, was later accused of committing a violent crime. He argued that sanctuary policies have led to preventable tragedies and called for an end to what he described as “dangerous” practices.

The discussion also touched on a 2011 Government Accountability Office (GAO) study, which found that illegal immigrants had committed millions of criminal offenses. Homan and Hannity emphasized the lack of comprehensive data on crimes committed by undocumented individuals, blaming sanctuary cities for failing to track immigration status in their jails.

“We don’t have metrics because sanctuary cities won’t ask about nationality or immigration status,” Homan said. “They don’t want ICE to find out. That’s why we need to sue sanctuary cities and force them to comply with federal law.”

Homan’s comments align with the Trump administration’s broader strategy to challenge sanctuary jurisdictions. He reiterated President Trump’s commitment to ending sanctuary policies, citing plans to take legal action against cities and states that refuse to cooperate with federal immigration enforcement.

The segment also featured a discussion of Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), who has proposed legislation allowing individuals to sue sanctuary cities and states that fail to enforce immigration laws. Homan praised the idea, arguing that it would hold local governments accountable for endangering public safety.

As the debate over immigration enforcement continues to heat up, Homan’s remarks underscore the Trump administration’s hardline stance on illegal immigration and its determination to dismantle sanctuary policies. Meanwhile, Governor Murphy and other Democratic leaders remain steadfast in their opposition, setting the stage for a protracted legal and political battle.

For now, all eyes are on New Jersey as Homan’s investigation into Governor Murphy’s alleged actions unfolds. The outcome could have far-reaching implications for the ongoing national debate over immigration, sanctuary cities, and the rule of law.
