TAMPA, Fla. – A Tampa man has been arrested for attempting to detonate explosives at a local casino. Bryan Robert Eckley, 46, is facing charges for planting two radio-controlled bombs in casino restrooms on September 30th.
Thankfully, casino employees discovered the devices before they could cause any harm, potentially preventing a devastating incident.
“Eckley did everything he could to hide from law enforcement,” said FDLE Tampa Bay Special Agent in Charge Mark Brutnell. “But thanks to the exceptional work of this investigative and forensic team, he will be held accountable for his actions.”

The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort involving the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE), the Seminole Police Department, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, and the FBI. Investigators used interviews, surveillance footage, and analytical work to identify Eckley as the suspect.
Interestingly, Eckley had been arrested days earlier by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office on an unrelated aggravated assault charge. Forensic analysts were able to link evidence from that arrest to the explosive devices found at the casino.
“This case is a shining example of how our local and state law enforcement agencies work together to make our community safe. When you intentionally attempt to harm innocent people, you will be held accountable by my office. I want to commend each of our law enforcement partners for their swift actions that ensured this defendant’s arrest and prosecution,” said State Attorney Suzy Lopez.

“On behalf of the Seminole Police Department of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, I want to acknowledge and thank the organizations and individuals who have been instrumental in helping us make this important arrest,” said Lieutenant Ken Azpeitia, who has led the investigation for the Seminole Police Department. “Public safety is our highest priority, and your teamwork and expertise have helped us to ensure public safety.”
Eckley was arrested on October 30th and is currently in custody at the Hillsborough County Jail. He will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 13th Judicial Circuit.
