CLEARWATER. FL – The body of the trapped worker has been recovered after a stairwell collapsed in Clearwater Monday.
“The body of the victim in the stairwell collapse was recovered shortly before 6:30 this morning. Crews worked throughout the night as part of the recovery process,” said the City Of Clearwater in a statement.
Clearwater Fire & Rescue Department crews, along with the Clearwater Police Department and other fire departments from across Pinellas County, were on the scene of a structure collapse Monday.
The call came in at 12:35 p.m.on Enterprise Road just off Countryside Boulevard.
Workers were conducting some stairwell repairs when a portion of the stairwell collapsed, trapping one worker. Fire crews have not been able to enter the scene until the four-story parking garage is deemed to be safe.
Clearwater Fire Rescue Division Chief John Klinefelter said a the time, “At this point, it’s looking it’s looking more like a recovery operation.”
