The body of missing Florida woman Cassie Carli, 37, was found Saturday night in Alabama.
Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said on Sunday that Carli’s body was found Saturday night in a shallow grave. The sheriff did not say where the body was found but named the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office and the Springville Police Department in Alabama were assisting in the search.
Johnson said the body was identified by a tattoo and said an autopsy will be performed Monday in Huntsville.
Cassie Carli, 37, went to scheduled custody pick up of her 4-year-old daughter, Saylor last Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 7 pm in Navarre Beach, Florida.
Cassie was to meet up with her ex-boyfriend, Marcus Spanevelo, as they always do to exchange custody of their daughter.
Cassie disappeared and hasn’t been seen or heard from since.
Her daughter, Saylor was found to be staying with a friend of Marcus’ in Alabama. Marcus was also located in Alabama.
Almost a week later, no one has had contact with Cassie, which is completely out of the ordinary according to friends and family.
Police say Cassie has not used her cell phone or her bank account.
“She was in the middle of starting a new job on base being a lead server,” Cassie’s sister, Raeann told Dateline NBC that she texted Cassie afterward to see how it went. “Saturday evening was the last time she texted me, but she said it just went well.”
The night she went missing, her Dad received texts from Cassie’s phone stating she was having car troubles.
Her vehicle was located at the meet-up location and her purse was located inside the vehicle.
Raeann told Dateline that her father called her the next day, on Monday, March 28. “He called me at 4 p.m. on Monday because he said, you know, ‘She’s not back home,’” Raeann said. Their father decided to call the police that evening, almost 24 hours after she left for Juana’s.
Police in Florida say the ex-boyfriend of missing mom Cassie Carli has been arrested in Tennessee.
“Marcus Spanevelo is currently in custody,” the Santa Rosa County Florida Sheriff’s Office said Saturday in a Facebook post. “He was arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations and the Tennessee Highway Patrol in Lebanon Tennessee where he is being held on the following charges:, Tampering with Evidence, Giving False Information Concerning a Missing Persons Investigation, Destruction of Evidence.”
“Currently, this case remains an active investigation,” the statement added. “We are cautious as to the information being released due to the sensitivity of this case. Search efforts for Cassi Carli remain underway. The mutual child is still safe.”
This is a breaking story and we will be updating this as details are released.
