A routine boating trip turned into a significant drug bust this weekend when a boater discovered a burlap sack floating in the ocean containing 25 bricks of cocaine. The discovery, made off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, led to the seizure of approximately 65 pounds of cocaine by U.S. Border Patrol agents with support from the U.S. Coast Guard Southeast.

The boater immediately alerted authorities after spotting the suspicious package. Border Patrol agents and Coast Guard personnel responded swiftly, recovering the drugs.

The cocaine, with an estimated street value in the millions, was transported to a secure location for further investigation.

Authorities have not yet determined the origin of the cocaine or how it ended up floating in the ocean. However, such discoveries are not uncommon in South Florida, a region often targeted by drug traffickers due to its proximity to the Caribbean and Latin America.

Smugglers frequently use the ocean to transport narcotics, sometimes dropping packages overboard to avoid detection by law enforcement.
