Matt Gaetz Resign

Biggs, Gaetz, Boebert, MTG Want Cheney And Kinzinger Kicked Out Of GOP Meetings, Cooperating With Pelosi

More than a dozen Republican lawmakers are asking Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to exclude Reps. Lynn Cheney and Adam Kinzinger from GOP meetings because they’ve chosen to work with Democrats on the Jan. 6 “witch hunt.”

“This proposal is not because of a policy or political difference,” the letter says, “but because some members have chosen to work with Democrats to investigate and potentially remove Republican members of the House.”

The group, led by Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona, notes that Republican Conference meetings are where GOP lawmakers can strategize on how to push back against the “radical policies” of Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats. That includes how to handle the “false narrative” that the Jan. 6 riot was an “insurrection,” and that Republicans are responsible for it.

The letter maintains that Cheney and Kinzinger are “two spies for the Democrats” who keep getting invited to the meetings “despite our inability to trust them.”

The letter further points out that Trump-appointed FBI Director Christopher Wray has described most of those gathered near the Capitol on Jan. 6 as “peaceful protesters exercising their First Amendment rights,” and that many others were not violent, but simply “where they were not legally supposed to be,” and accordingly charged with trespassing. Moreover, those charged with committing violence against police officers are also being prosecuted.

“The FBI’s investigation and prosecutions are not enough for Speaker Pelosi,” the group writes. “She needs publicity and narrative. She needs to demonize Republicans. … The Select Committee [investigating Jan. 6] allows her to target the Republican Members of Congress she thinks will be most beneficial to her narrative: those she thinks she may be able to unseat from Congress [and] those whom targeting will raise her the most amount of money.”

The letter notes that Pelosi tipped her hand by opposing the inclusion of pro-Trump Reps. Jim Banks and Jim Jordan on the Select Committee.

“You rightly requested that no other Republican Members agree to serve on her witch-hunt task force. Congresswoman Cheney and Congressman Kinzinger defied that request, offering to aid Democrats in their investigation,” the letter says. “We cannot trust these members to sit in our Republican Conference meetings while we plan our defense against the Democrats,” the letter states.

Seventeen Republicans signed the letter to McCarthy, including Florida Reps. Matt Gaetz and Bill Posey and firebrands Marjorie Taylor Greene, Lauren Boebert and Jody Hice.
